Shelving Concepts announced today that it has acquired Anchor Manufacturing, a precision metal fabricator, furthering the company’s cross-market manufacturing capabilities in Texas and throughout the United States. Tom Amoruso, owner of Shelving Concepts, and Jason Lefave of Anchor Manufacturing are both leading manufacturers in the material handling equipment industry, and their friendship and camaraderie span over two decades. The long-term relationship that began with Tom’s mundane sale of cantilever rack to Jason in 2004 has brought together mentorship and friendly competition, and has now come full circle with Shelving Concepts’ acquisition of Anchor Manufacturing.

Lefave looks fondly back at his initial meeting with Amoruso. “He had what I needed, and we just had a really good conversation,” Lefave recalled. “I kept buying materials from him over the years, and the relationship kept growing. ”At this point, Lefave was the owner of Baker Industrial Supply.

“When property became available in 2006, Tom basically walked me through how to do it, how to buy land, build a facility, everything,” Lefave said. “That first 9,000-square-foot building became the beginning of everything.”

For the next 20 years, Lefave would construct more buildings, new and larger ones, and ultimately a factory with floor space of 122,000 square feet. Finally, in 2019, Anchor Manufacturing came to fruition. Shelving Concepts and Anchor Manufacturing were competitors and friends. Eventually, conversations shifted from competition to continuity.

“This acquisition is really a full-circle moment,” Amoruso said. “Jason started as a customer, became someone I was proud to mentor, and built a company that strengthened the industry. Now we get to carry that forward.”

Expanding Manufacturing
“The acquisition will significantly strengthen fabrication capabilities, particularly in structural pallet rack systems and crossbeam production, critical components in warehouse infrastructure,”Amoruso proclaimed.

To Amoruso, “The most crucial factor to me as a manufacturer is keeping promises to our customers. Now I will have control over time, quality, and cost, ensuring my customers get the best overall product.” The expanded facility will include new production equipment and an upgraded powder-coat line, enabling increased throughput and reliability.

“Production levels are going to go up significantly,” Lefave explained. “But just as important, the setup allows work to move between lines when issues happen, which they always do in manufacturing. That keeps orders moving instead of stopping.”

With this acquisition, Amoruso will be positioned to offer one of the industry’s widest product lines, including cantilever rack, two types of pallet rack, structural and roll-formed, as well as industrial metal shelving, and rivet shelving all under one roof.

Confidence in the Transition

For Lefave, the decision to place Anchor Manufacturing under Amoruso’s ownership came down to experience and trust.

“I built the company as far as I could take it,” he said. “Tom has decades of manufacturing experience. I told our team , it’s like a college football team with a coach who’s been coaching football for 20 years, versus a coach who’s never coached before. There would be many struggles and a steep learning curve with the inexperienced coach. What I was trying to convey is that we have a really good coach ahead of us who has seen a lot more than I have when it comes to manufacturing.”

Lefave said preserving the company’s workforce and reputation is of the utmost importance to him.

“The people were the biggest thing to protect,” he said. “We employ local families, and this ensures the company keeps growing while still supporting the community.”

Maintaining Anchor Manufacturing’s RMI membership (Rack Manufacturing Institute) and RMark certification is of the utmost importance and is one of Lefave’s proudest achievements in the racking industry. Lefave describes the process in which this accomplishment was achieved, “We became an RMI member, the Rack Manufacturers Institute, and that’s a very challenging thing to make happen including a rigorous, third-party verified process involving documentation of engineering design, testing data, and quality control procedures to ensure compliance with ANSI standards.”

Investing in Domestic Manufacturing

The acquisition aligns with Amoruso’s long-term strategy to expand U.S. based production.

“Manufacturing domestically is not solely about where the product is made; most importantly, it’s about certainty. When your manufacturer is close to home, you can rely on timelines and steady communication. In today’s market, reliability is as valuable as the product itself.” Amoruso explains.

Amoruso will operate as Anchor Manufacturing and will continue to support domestic supply chains.
