Experience the Heart of Mediterranean Culture at Houston’s 2nd Annual Mediterranean Festival

HOUSTON, TX - Step into the rich and vibrant world of the Mediterranean, where every flavor, rhythm, and tradition invites you into a warm and welcoming community. The Mediterranean Festival is returning for its second year, hosted by St. George Orthodox Christian Church at 5311 Mercer St. in Houston on Saturday, October 26th, and all are welcome to join in the celebration.

“As a steadfast fixture in the West University Place neighborhood for over 60 years, we cherish the connection we share with this community. I look forward to seeing both familiar faces and meeting new friends at our 2nd annual Mediterranean Festival,” said Rev. Fr. James Shadid, head priest of St. George Orthodox Christian Church. "Ahlan wa sahlan! All are welcome!”

The festival, revived last year after a brief hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, returned as an opportunity to bring the community together once again. Last year’s event drew in more than 2,400 attendees, and organizers are hopeful that the 2024 festival will double in size. Proceeds from the festival will support the church’s efforts to build a Fellowship Activity Center, furthering their outreach and community-building efforts.

“What happens outside the church is just as important as what happens inside,” said Rana Abercia, chairwoman of the Mediterranean Festival Committee. “The Mediterranean Festival is a wonderful way for us to extend our care and hospitality beyond our four walls. It’s a joyful celebration where friends, family, neighbors, and newcomers can experience our culture in an inviting and festive atmosphere.”

The festival promises an unforgettable experience filled with authentic Mediterranean food, live music, and cultural performances, offering a true taste of Mediterranean life. From traditional dishes and desserts to artisanal crafts and family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
