Emily Morgan has a sense of humor about the season she’s walking through.
“If my friends hear this, they will crack up,” she says.
At one point, things had become so unpredictable that Emily joked she wanted to meet whoever had made the voodoo doll that looked like her, because they clearly knew what they were doing.
Behind the joke, however, has been a genuinely difficult stretch.
There has been uncertainty in business. Her home flooded in March, forcing Emily and her family into an Airbnb. With three children, ages 17, 11 and 9, they have experienced the disruption together.
And that has given Emily an opportunity to teach them something she believes matters far beyond this particular moment.
Seasons change.
Emily doesn’t believe life is supposed to remain perfectly calm.
She describes it almost like floating in the ocean. One moment the water is peaceful. Then the waves appear. Sometimes the float underneath you even disappears, and suddenly you’re being tossed around.
Eventually, you have to put your feet underneath you and stand again.
For Emily, faith is an important part of finding that strength.
“You might be in a season that just feels like it’s going to break you,” she says. “But guess what? Seasons change.”
It’s a message she shares often with her children, particularly her 17-year-old daughter, and one she hopes others will remember when their own lives become difficult.
Things can be hard.
Circumstances can change without warning.
But this moment is still only a season.
And as Emily puts it:
“Seasons change. And praise God that they do.”
