    Meet Derek

How they got into what they do:

Derek launched his health insurance business in 2018 after nearly two decades as a moving and storage entrepreneur, driven by a desire to help individuals, families, and fellow self-employed professionals secure coverage that truly fits their needs.

    Who they love serving:
He loves serving entrepreneurs, self-employed professionals, small business owners, and families who want someone they trust to guide them through their health insurance options.

    What matters most to them:
What matters most to Derek is making insurance simple, transparent, and empowering—so people feel confident in their coverage instead of confused or pressured.

    What We Solve

Derek supports his clients by cutting through the noise of public and private health insurance, comparing multiple carriers and options to build customized coverage that matches their real-life needs and budget—not just whatever one company happens to offer.

Key services / ways he helps

    • Customizing health insurance plans for individuals, families, and self-employed professionals across both public and private markets

    • Comparing multiple carriers and options to find affordable, comprehensive coverage instead of a one-size-fits-all product

    • Mentoring new entrepreneurs and self-employed agents on how to launch and grow their businesses while protecting themselves with the right insurance

    Best Fit For:
Self-employed professionals, small business owners, and families in Greater Houston who want a knowledgeable, entrepreneur-minded advisor to simplify their health insurance decisions and help them avoid costly mistakes.

    About Tice Health and Life

Born and raised in Houston and now residing in Spring, Derek is a proud single dad and lifelong entrepreneur with a passion for helping others succeed. After nearly two decades owning a moving and storage company, he launched his health insurance business in 2018, driven by a mission to support individuals, families, and especially fellow self-employed professionals in securing quality health coverage that truly fits their needs.

Derek specializes in customizing policies across both public and private markets, leveraging multiple carrier partnerships to ensure his clients have every option available, not just one product or company. His dedication to empowering Houston’s entrepreneurs extends beyond his business: through the Community Connectors program, he’s expanding his network city-wide to collaborate, refer, and uplift other professionals making an impact across Houston.

    Expertise & Superpower

With over 26 years of business ownership, Derek’s superpower lies in helping new entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses the right way, and avoiding the costly mistakes that many make early on. He has successfully built a team of 24 self-employed agents, most of whom started with no prior business or insurance experience, and takes great pride in mentoring them toward professional and personal success.

Beyond entrepreneurship, Derek is deeply knowledgeable in health and life insurance, able to explain complex topics clearly and confidently. Whether it’s guiding someone through plan selection or advising a business owner on coverage options, Derek is known for making the process simple, transparent, and empowering.

    Current Focus

Derek’s current focus is Health Insurance Open Enrollment, which runs nationwide from November 1 – December 15, 2025. During this important time, he’s helping individuals, families, and small business owners navigate their options to secure affordable, comprehensive coverage for the coming year.

If you’re self-employed or running a small business, now is the perfect time to connect with Derek for personalized guidance and expert advice on your insurance needs.

    Connected to the Houston Community

Born and raised in Houston and now based in Spring, Derek is deeply rooted in the community as both a lifelong entrepreneur and a proud single dad. He brings that same heart for people into his work, especially when supporting other self-employed Houstonians trying to build something of their own.

Through the Houston City Beat Community Connectors program, Derek is expanding his impact city-wide—collaborating with other professionals, sharing referrals, and championing the small business and entrepreneurial community he cares so much about. Whether he’s guiding clients through Open Enrollment or mentoring new agents, Derek is committed to helping Houston’s doers, builders, and dreamers protect their health while they grow their businesses.
